19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
The win also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
