Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
